Therapy Changed My Life but Another Way Transformed Me

The Many Paths to Healing: My Journey Through Therapy and Beyond

For many people—myself included—counselling and psychotherapy have been profound, life-changing experiences. Therapy has played such a vital role in my adult life that I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. Over the years, I’ve worked with several therapists, each contributing to my journey, but one in particular stands out. She was more than a therapist—she was a guide, a teacher, a deeply intuitive, kind, and wise person. She challenged me in ways that changed my life, and for that, I am deeply grateful.

Being seen and heard in a non-judgmental, empathetic space where I could speak freely and express my deepest thoughts and feelings with someone who truly understood was something I had longed for. Therapy gave me that space, and I will always be grateful to those who provided it.

However, alongside therapy, I discovered another way—a way that gave me profound insight into myself. I learned why I thought, felt, and behaved the way I did. I uncovered not only childhood trauma but also deeper wounds from my earliest experiences. I realised I had spent much of my life as a ‘joker,’ a ‘caretaker,’ a ‘rescuer,’ and a ‘runner’—roles shaped by my self-worth and lack of it.

Through this journey, I experienced powerful ‘aha!’ moments—discoveries about my Inner Child and the parts of me I had forgotten or never truly understood. But beyond self-awareness, I found something even more transformative: a deep connection with a group of people who, like me, needed kindness, compassion, and love. In that space of shared understanding, profound healing took place. Though we were all learning to be psychotherapists, we were also learning about ourselves, and in doing so, we were healing together.

The closeness of this group has never left me. There, something incredible happened—our shy, frightened Inner Children felt safe enough to be seen and heard. We were able to express our pain and be comforted- we trusted each-other. That experience changed me in a way that traditional therapy alone had not.

Different Paths to Self-Discovery

Therapy is a life-changing path for many, but it’s not the only path. For some, traditional weekly one-on-one sessions may not feel like the right fit. Some people need a different process to find deeper understanding of themselves, their Inner Child, and the beliefs they’ve carried that continue to shape their lives. They need to be guided to understand why they feel disempowered, why they repeat painful patterns, what to do when they are triggered and how to break free.

More and more people are seeking workshops and courses that offer not just insight but practical tools for healing and empowerment. They want to experience growth and have the tools now—to shift their confidence, self-worth, and fears so they can take control of their lives. They want to develop self-awareness, assertiveness, and self-love in a way that feels immediate and tangible.

That’s what I found in a group setting, and that’s what I have now created for women. A space where they can learn, heal, grow and empower themselves in a Circle of Women who support and uplift them. And it works.

The Power of Choice

This isn’t about choosing between therapy and workshops—it’s about finding what works for you. If I had experienced a workshop like this first, where I gained deep self-awareness, healing tools, and the support of compassionate women, I would have chosen that first - even at 26 (when I had my first session), and then pursued therapy. I would have still been nervous at first, but I know that as I felt safer, I would have been able to let go and heal.

The journey to healing is personal. Whether through one-to-one therapy, group workshops, or a combination of both, the important thing is to find what resonates with you. Healing is not one-size-fits-all, but when we find the right path, the transformation is profound.
